We are one of the two companies in this comparison. Everything below about Story Medallion was taken from their own website on 27 August 2026, and we would encourage you to check it rather than take our word for it.
They have taken the same position we have on the thing that matters most, which is that a memorial should not carry a subscription. Most of what follows is about smaller differences.

Where they beat us
Two medallions for £55. This is the honest headline and there is no way to dress it up. If you want one on the headstone and one on an urn at home, or one for a bench and one for a picture frame, they have solved that for less than we charge for a single plaque. On pounds of metal per pound sterling, they win.
Their warranty covers theft. Ours covers fading, rust, corrosion and the plaque lifting off in normal outdoor use, for as long as we are trading, but if somebody prises it off a headstone we have not committed to replacing it. They have. That is a real difference in a real risk, and it is worth saying so.
Unlimited video links. If your family has hours of footage already sitting on a video site, linking to it costs nothing and has no ceiling. We host video ourselves, which is more durable and more private, and it means we have to put a limit on it.
Where we differ, and why
Thirty photographs against a thousand
This is the largest practical gap between the two products.
Thirty photographs is a good funeral slideshow. It is not a life. Sit down with the shoeboxes and there are usually several hundred worth keeping, and the ones that arrive later from cousins and old colleagues are often the best of them.
We allow 1,000 photographs, 30 minutes of video and 30 minutes of voice, and we publish those figures rather than saying unlimited. That is roughly thirty times their photograph allowance. If you know you have a great deal to put somewhere, it is the difference between a page that fills up and a page that does not.
Fifty millimetres against eighty
Neither is right. A 50mm medallion is more discreet, which some families want very much, particularly on an older stone. An 80mm plaque is easier to scan at arm's length and in poor light.
If the memorial is Victorian and you want the addition barely noticeable, theirs is the better shape. If you want an older visitor to be able to scan it without crouching, ours is.
Lifetime access against a page with nothing to pay
Both of us reject subscriptions, so this is a narrow difference, but it is worth understanding.
Their site guarantees lifetime access with no subscription costs for orders placed by 31 December 2026. That is a clear commitment with a date attached to who it applies to.
Ours is included in the £70 for as long as The Life Behind is trading, with no subscription, no renewal fee and nothing to pay at any later point. We could have written forever. Instead we have written down what happens if we cannot carry on: our terms of service commit us to at least 90 days' notice by email, and a full download of everything on the page, before it goes offline.
Neither of these is a guarantee against the company ceasing to trade, because no company can promise that. What protects a family is not a promise at all: it is being able to download everything as ordinary files whenever you like, which you can do with us at any time and without asking, and having no subscription that can lapse, which is true of both of us. Of every supplier we have compared, none states what becomes of your page if they stop trading. That reasoning is set out at length in how memorial QR codes work, and what happens if the company closes.
Which to buy
Buy from Story Medallion if you need two markers, you want the smaller and more discreet size, and thirty photographs is enough for what you have.
Buy from us if you have hundreds of photographs and hours of recordings, you want a voice on the page as well as pictures, you want the larger 80mm plaque, and you would rather deal with a supplier who has written down what happens to the page if the business ends.
Ours is the memorial plaque with memory page at £70, everything included. If you would rather not fill the page yourself, we will build it for you from whatever you send us.
